A rider who died when his motorbike was in collision with a car while being followed by police “lived life to the full”, his wife said. Alan Long, 54, of Denton, Greater Manchester, suffered serious injuries in the crash in Stalybridge on Friday and died in hospital. Police said 50 minutes before the accident officers in Denton started to follow a rider who failed to stop.

A 54-year-old man has died in Greater Manchester after the motorbike he was riding collided with a car while being followed by police officers. The crash happened just before midnight in Stalybridge. Police said at about 2300 BST officers on Whittle Street, Denton, spotted the rider and signalled for him to stop.
